Rotbier (red beer)
Term from the Brauwerkstatt brewing glossary, category “Beer styles”.
Explanation
Reddish, malt-forward beer that was common in medieval Nuremberg and Franconia. The colour comes from Vienna malt, crystal malts or a little roasted malt. A few breweries brew it again today, mostly as a lager. Typical: 4.8–5.5% ABV.
