Brauwerkstatt Deutsch

Zoigl

Term from the Brauwerkstatt brewing glossary, category “Beer styles”.

Explanation

Unfiltered bottom-fermented beer from the Upper Palatinate in Bavaria. It is brewed in communal brewhouses owned by a whole village, for example in Windischeschenbach, Neuhaus, Falkenberg, Mitterteich and Eslarn. The wort then ferments in the cellars of individual families. When a six-pointed star, the “Zoigl”, hangs outside a house, beer is being served there.
