Beer in Bruges
Beer history, breweries and beer culture in Bruges (Belgium).
The lords of Gruuthuse held the right to tax gruit, the herb mixture used to flavour beer before hops. Their palace is now a museum. The De Halve Maan brewery, owned by the same family since 1856, has been pumping its beer through a pipeline about three kilometres (about two miles) long under the old town to its bottling plant since 2016.
