Calories in beer
Term from the Brauwerkstatt brewing glossary, category “Measurements and calculations”.
Explanation
The calories in beer come mainly from alcohol (about 7 kcal per gram) and residual extract (about 4 kcal per gram). A normal lager with 5% ABV has about 40–45 kcal per 100 ml, roughly 150 kcal per 12 fl oz. Strong beers have considerably more, alcohol-free beer usually only 15–25 kcal per 100 ml (about 3.4 fl oz).
