Forced fermentation test
Term from the Brauwerkstatt brewing glossary, category “Fermentation and yeast”.
Explanation
Ferment a small sample of wort warm with some yeast, at about 25 °C (77 °F). After 2–3 days it shows the lowest possible final gravity, so you know when fermentation in the fermenter is really finished.

What does a forced fermentation test show?
- How bitter the beer will be
- How far the wort can ferment at most
- How high the pH is
Show answer
Correct: How far the wort can ferment at most. A wort sample ferments out warm with plenty of yeast. Its final gravity shows when the main fermentation is complete.
